Cyclospora cayetanensis: Reflections of a parasitologist

Event Description

In this upcoming TEPHI Grand Rounds webinar, Ynés Ortega, PhD, will provide an overview of the Cyclospora outbreaks reported in the US and observations from other endemic locations. Ortega will address the challenges and limitations of working with this parasite at the community and environmental level, including food production systems.

Ortega is an associate professor at the University of Georgia Center for Food Safety. She earned a bachelor of science in biology from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, a doctorate in microbiology and immunology from the University of Arizona, and a master of public health in international health from Johns Hopkins University. Her research explores the persistence of food and waterborne pathogens and their detection in biological and environmental samples.
