In December 2022, while at day care, Kelsey and Joe Schneider’s 4-month-old daughter Parker suffered her first epileptic seizure, suffering a total of six between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, along with two hospitalizations at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. Kelsey had intense, body-numbing migraines herself, but wasn't aware of any family history of seizures.

A four-year, $2.9 million grant to assess the implementation of real-time health intervention to decrease substance use and support HIV prevention strategies in young adults experiencing homelessness, has been awarded to researchers from Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston by the National Institute of Nursing Research, part of the National Institutes of Health.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston topped all other undergraduate nursing programs in Texas, according to the 2024 U.S. News Best Colleges publication, which was released today.

R.Á.P.I.D.O., a culturally relevant acronym created under the leadership of Jennifer Beauchamp, PhD, RN, at Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston to raise awareness of stroke signs in the Spanish-speaking Hispanic/Latino community and save lives, has been adopted by the American Stroke Association (ASA), the organization announced today.

Dr. Kristina Whitworth and Dr. Elaine Symanski at Baylor College of Medicine and Dr. Thomas F. Northrup at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston received funding from the National Institutes of Health as part of the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program to recruit a cohort of pregnant people in Houston with the ultimate goal of following their children through age 21 years.
