New grant at UTHealth Houston aimed at preventing depression among stroke survivors

Research has shown that engaging in enjoyable or meaningful activities can help prevent depression after stroke. Now an interprofessional team of researchers at UTHealth Houston has received a new federal grant to test an intervention using video chats to encourage mood-enhancing behaviors among older, low-income stroke survivors.

Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston and UTHealth Houston School of Public Health received top honors last week, ranking No.1 in Texas in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools report. It’s a repeat No. 1 performance for the School of Public Health and a new accolade for Cizik School of Nursing.


New perioperative institute launches to make surgery safer

UTHealth Houston announced the establishment of the Institute of Perioperative Medicine, which will span different schools, including McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston and McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics at UTHealth Houston.
