A Message from President Giuseppe N. Colasurdo, MD

As announced earlier today by UT System, on March 1 I will be stepping down from my position as President of UTHealth Houston while the search for my successor is conducted. After almost fourteen years in the office, I believe this is the right time to return to my career as a clinician and educator in pulmonary medicine. 

I am so pleased that Dr. LaTanya Love has agreed to serve as interim president during the search. Dr. Love has been a part of the UTHealth Houston community since her residency in the Department of Pediatrics. It has been a pleasure to witness her career develop as a physician, teacher, and mentor, and as an outstanding leader and advocate within both McGovern Medical School and the university. I am certain she will excel as our interim president and look forward to working with her in this new role.

I would like to say once again that it has been an absolute privilege to serve as your president, and I am so proud of all that we have accomplished together. Thanks to you, your many talents, and your tireless efforts, this university is one of the nation’s leading institutions of biomedical education, is conducting an unprecedented level of research across the spectrum of health sciences, and is a leader in delivering medical care. It has been an honor to serve with you and to witness these incredible achievements firsthand. 

Looking ahead, I have full confidence in the search committee to select an ideal candidate as your next president, and in the wonderful students, faculty, and staff of UTHealth Houston to maintain our university’s culture of service and commitment to excellence. Thank you again for placing your trust in me, for your steadfast support, and for the countless ways you have inspired me. Please join me in supporting Dr. Love as our interim president, and thanking her for continued service to our great university.
