Editor’s note: In the coming weeks, UTHealth Houston will highlight the members of the IT Solutions Team in a series titled “Meet the voices of the IT Solution Center.”

When UTHealth Houston staff, faculty, or students need to call the IT Solution Center — also known as the “Help Desk” — the highly skilled people who answer those calls do not work for a vendor or happen to be in another country. They are all full-time UTHealth Houston employees who are dedicated call responders, working together to get computers or mobile devices working again.

The university’s IT Solution Center staff consists of 11 individuals, and they operate the call center from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. They pride themselves on being available beyond regular business hours in order to serve everyone within the UTHealth Houston community.

Meet Tiffany Hudson, IT solutions support specialist II

Originally from the Morgan Park area of Chicago, Hudson moved to Houston in 2021 and is one of the newest members of the IT Solution Center team. She joined the staff after working two years as a sales audit analyst for 7-Eleven at their national headquarters in Irving, Texas.

Prior to that, Hudson spent 16 years as a special education teacher in the Chicago and Washington D.C. area public school systems. She attended Illinois State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in education.

My experience as a teacher has really come in handy while I’m explaining the steps to resolve IT issues to callers,” said Hudson. “Actively listening and breaking down instructions to their level of understanding — that part has come naturally, due to my experience as a teacher. I try to use the utmost level of patience and speak to our clients respectfully, to provide the best customer service experience possible.”

One of the more memorable calls that Hudson has recently answered involved a person who was looking for information about where to donate his body to science.

“He didn’t necessarily need any IT assistance at all, so I just referred him to the medical school. I found that one to be pretty funny and a little strange,” she said.

Hudson lives in Pearland and enjoys attending live music shows, playing tennis, and working out at the gym.
