New Publication Highlights Advances in Stroke Biomarkers and Translational Therapies
A recent publication in Translational Stroke Research, published by Springer Nature, highlights advances in translational approaches to acute ischemic stroke (AIS), with contributions from Dr. Sean Savitz of the UTHealth Houston Stroke Institute in collaboration with Aruna Bio, Inc.
The study focuses on improving the reliability of preclinical stroke models and strengthening the translation of biomarkers to clinical settings. A key finding is the strong cross-species relevance of serum neurofilament light chain (NfL), which closely correlated with functional outcomes in a rat AIS model and performed comparably to infarct volume, outperforming other commonly used serum biomarkers.
The research also provides important dosing insights for neural stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (NSC EV), supporting their continued development as a potential therapeutic approach.
Collectively, these findings strengthen the foundation for more reliable preclinical modeling and reinforce the clinical relevance of emerging biomarkers, advancing efforts to accelerate effective stroke therapies.
