As we begin a new year together, I am honored to open nominations for the President’s Awards for Leadership. This year marks my first opportunity to present these awards, and I am eager to celebrate those whose leadership exemplifies excellence and represents the very heart of our university.

At UTHealth Houston, great leadership occurs at all levels. It inspires achievement, strengthens collaboration, and reflects our shared commitment to service, compassion, and ethical standards. One of the most meaningful ways we can honor these qualities is by nominating colleagues for the President’s Awards for Leadership.

Since 2006, these annual awards—inspired by the late Michael J. Jimenez, former vice president of Human Resources—have recognized individuals who consistently demonstrate the qualities of effective leadership. Each year, three honorees are selected: one faculty member, one management A&P employee, and one staff member.

All UTHealth Houston employees are encouraged to submit nominations, and group nominations are welcome. To prepare your submission, gather examples and testimonials, along with a description of how your nominee demonstrates leadership.

Please complete and submit the nomination form by the deadline at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26. For more information, please email [email protected].

I look forward to celebrating the extraordinary leaders among us. Thank you for helping us recognize those who inspire excellence and embody the values that define our university.

With gratitude,

Melina R. Kibbe, MD

President and Alkek-Williams Distinguished Chair
