Chancellor J.B. Milliken has appointed LaTanya Love, MD, as interim president of UTHealth Houston, effective March 1, 2025. She currently serves as UTHealth Houston’s dean of education at the McGovern Medical School and executive vice president of student and university affairs.

Dr. Love has a long history at UTHealth Houston, having completed her residency in internal medicine and pediatrics there in 2004. She served as a chief resident in 2005.  Following her medical training, she was immediately recruited to the faculty in pediatrics and served in leadership roles in admissions, student affairs and student health services.  Love earned her MD at UT Medical Branch in Galveston.

“Throughout Dr. Love’s twenty-year professional path at UTHealth Houston, she has consistently demonstrated leadership, and she contributes immensely across many of the university’s core mission areas,” said Milliken.  “The regents and I are grateful to Dr. Love for serving in this role during the upcoming presidential search process,” he added.

Love will succeed Giuseppe Colasurdo, MD, UTHealth Houston’s president, who announced in September 2024 his plans to step down from the presidency following a tenure of more than 12 years. Colasurdo’s presidency was marked by significant advancements in UTHealth Houston’s education, research, and clinical enterprises, and he led transformations that have contributed significantly to top-ranked professional schools within the institution.

“President Colasurdo dedicated tremendous energy and expertise to positioning UTHealth Houston among the best academic health centers in the nation.  He has left the institution in a strong position, and we are deeply grateful for his service as president,” said Milliken.
