Rose Hochner Nelson is a seasoned executive leader in higher education and health care marketing, currently serving UTHealth Houston as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications and Chief of Staff to the President. In her dual role, she oversees the university’s marketing, branding, and external and internal communications, and works with executive leadership to set and execute the university’s strategic direction.

With a track record of transformational leadership, Rose led UTHealth Houston’s first comprehensive marketing campaign and a major brand refresh across all schools and programs. She also launched the university’s inaugural national brand elevation campaign.

Before joining UTHealth Houston, Rose was an account executive at 20K Group, LLC, where she managed communications strategies for clients in health care, energy, commercial real estate, and the nonprofit sector. She began her career in fundraising at the Alley Theatre and gained early leadership experience in education and program management at Mission Mountain School in Montana.

Rose holds a Master of Business Administration from Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy Studies from Duke University. She is an active member of the Houston community, serving as a trustee of the Cullen Trust for the Performing Arts and on advisory and nonprofit boards including Yellowstone Forever, Alley Theatre, and Rescued Pets Movement.
