Aquatics at the Recreation Center take place in our outdoor, Olympic-size swimming pool. The pool is heated and is open year-round. The pool is always open for lap swimming during open facility hours; however, it closes 30 minutes prior to the facility. We also offer a variety of year-round and seasonal programs.  We are now observing SUMMER FAMILY SWIM HOURS for 2019.

Children under 16 must be accompanied AND supervised by a parent/guardian at all times.

Monday—Friday: 5:30am—9:30pm

Saturday: 8:00am—7:30pm
Sunday: 10:00am—7:30pm

Monday—Friday: 12:00pm—8:00pm
Saturday: 8:00am—7:30pm
Sunday: 10:00am—7:30pm

When the weather is consistently warmer, the blankets are removed and SUMMER HOURS are in effect.
During SUMMER HOURS, families with children under 16 may swim during posted hours only.
SUMMER HOURS are typically from March to November, depending on the weather.

When the weather gets consistently cooler, blankets are installed and WINTER HOURS are in effect.
During WINTER HOURS, no one under 16 is allowed in the pool or on the pool deck.
WINTER HOURS are usually November to March.

Swim Lessons

Private or semi-private swim lessons are available during the summer for children (must be at least 4 years old and potty-trained) or adults.  Lessons are designed for all levels!  From basic skills + water safety to transitioning to defined strokes or advanced stroke refinement.  Participants do not need to be current members of the Recreation Center, but must meet eligibility requirements  Lessons are open to all Texas Medical Center faculty, staff, residents, students and families and UT System alumni.  Lessons typically begin by June and wrap up in August.  Registration is now open for Summer 2019!

Note: We are no longer offering group swim lessons.

Employment Opportunities

Now hiring for Summer 2019!  Each summer we hire Group Swim Lesson Instructors, Private/Semi-Private Swim Lesson Instructors and Pool Attendants.  Individuals may be employed in just one or any combination of the three positions, depending on experience.  Employment is for June through August with training beginning in late May.  Applications accepted in February/March.  Ideal position for teachers, college students and recent high school graduates with an aquatic background.  Employees must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate by the time lessons begin in June.  For specific questions, contact the Program Manager.  To apply online, visit Human Resources.
