Message from the Dean

Because public health and individual health are closely linked, experts at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health work with entire communities to prevent disease and reduce barriers to high-quality care. Our statewide presence gives us insight into the unique needs of specific populations and regions, enabling us to assess and address the challenges of an increasingly complex health landscape while training students to carry on this critical work.

Many of these initiatives are possible only through philanthropy. Whether donors support nutrition programs for people facing food insecurity or propel research into human genetics to combat disease, the generosity of our UTHealth Houston family changes lives in profound ways.

Giving opportunities

Our fundraising priorities reflect our committed pursuit of our vision of health without boundaries.

Supporting scholarships for future public health experts

Through degree programs that teach the science and practice of public health—including seven master’s degrees, nine doctoral degrees, 21 dual degrees, and 18 certificate programs—we equip tomorrow’s health experts to lead public health initiatives and advance breakthroughs. Our graduates protect and promote public health through careers in universities, community organizations, corporations, and at every level of government, but many of them would not be where they are now without the support of donors.

By giving to scholarships, you can support the next generation who will serve and advocate for our families, friends, and neighbors for years to come.

Advancing research on urgent health challenges

Researchers at the School of Public Health focus on communities—creating the tools, programs, and information that lead to healthier lives. Our public health experts work with local stakeholders to understand public health challenges and develop collaborative solutions that bring lasting change—such as preventing infection diseases and translating academic research into effective public policy and guidelines.

Your gift to support faculty and research programs can help address urgent public health issues, improving lives throughout Texas and beyond.

Delivering critical community outreach

From helping people facing homelessness to preventing cancer and addressing mental health issues, our outreach programs take faculty and students out of the classrooms and into the community. These programs provide students with real-world training and people throughout the area with the services and information they need to lead healthier lives. For example, in the Food Is Medicine program, physicians write patients a prescription for medically tailored meals and groceries, providing people from underserved communities with healthy food to combat chronic health conditions.

Your support of critical programs like these contributes to creating healthier communities across Texas and beyond.
