Pediatrics research yields diagnostic test for EoE

Research from McGovern Medical School’s Department of Pediatrics at UTHealth Houston has yielded a noninvasive diagnostic tool for an increasingly prevalent chronic immune system disease, eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE).

UTHealth Houston researchers begin five-year study into effectiveness and safety of whole blood transfusion

Funded by the National Heart Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), the “Trauma Resuscitation with Group O Whole Blood Or Products” (TROOP) trial will enroll 1,200 patients at 12 trauma centers across the United States, to compare whole blood transfusions to blood component therapy, the current standard in trauma transfusions. Enrollment for TROOP will begin in spring 2023.

LGBTQ+ youth face many obstacles accessing health care services, and providers must overcome a multitude of challenges to build the trust needed to keep them coming back for the care they need. Dean Diane Santa Maria, DrPH, MSN, RN, FANN, discussed these issues in an Oct. 19 as part of UTHealth Houston’s Diversity and Equity Speaker Series.
