Message from the Dean

Life-changing biomedical breakthroughs begin in the laboratory with discovery science serving as the foundation of research.

For six decades, our faculty and student researchers at MD Anderson UTHealth Houston Graduate School have been pursuing these discoveries every day, using the most advanced technology and the latest methods to overcome the most challenging diseases of our time.

By making a gift, you can advance the health of our communities now and for generations to come. Help celebrate our 60th anniversary by partnering with us to advance critical discovery science and translational research that improves the health and well-being of our communities or broadening our reach through community education programs that instill a passion for science.

Giving opportunities

Our fundraising priorities are focused on the students and researchers who will transform lives and advance the future of health care.

Supporting the education of future scientists

Working with top faculty across two powerhouse institutions, students at MD Anderson UTHealth Houston Graduate School have access to the resources and mentors they need to become outstanding scientists. Our master’s and doctoral programs equip them with the expertise to make breakthroughs that lead to improvements in patient care. Additionally, our top-tier MD/PhD program with McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston prepares future physician-scientists to bridge the gap between medicine and science to bring discoveries in the lab to patients at the bedside. Externships and internships tailor our programs to empower students with the critical core competencies needed to drive advancements in medicine and health technologies over the next decade and beyond.

By contributing to a fellowship, scholarship, externship, or internship, you can help our graduate and postdoctoral students focus on their studies, cultivate curiosity and creativity, and apply their training.

Advancing discovery and translational research

Before a treatment can save a patient’s life, researchers must study the disease at the molecular level. Our faculty pursue these discoveries every day, using the most advanced technology and the latest methods to overcome the most challenging diseases of our time. They apply a broad range of biomedical disciplines, from cell biology to neuroscience and biostatistics, to find the answers that have eluded medical science. They do this with the combined institutional backing of UTHealth Houston and MD Anderson Cancer Center, along with the collaborative support of the other UTHealth Houston schools.

By supporting faculty researchers, you can provide them with the critical resources to find the answers that will make longer, healthier lives a reality.

The Academy

Bolstering graduate student success

The Academy provides support to graduate students training to become the next generation of biomedical science leaders. Starting with a pre-matriculation summer boot camp, Academy scholars learn how to bolster their success in graduate school. These students enhance their academic and professional skills—such as time management, effective scientific communication, and data analysis skills—in supplemental workshops and activities throughout the year. Individualized mentoring enables Academy scholars to receive personalized guidance, and a peer group provides social support.

Through a gift to The Academy, you can support high-level training and an encouraging community to help Academy scholars thrive in graduate school and beyond as they build fulfilling biomedical science careers.
