Emergency Loan Details
Emergency loans (short-term, 90-day loans) are available to students for tuition payment and living expenses during temporary financial hardships.
Tuition Emergency Loans
Tuition emergency loans are processed only for the amount of the tuition and bear interest at a 5% annual rate. This emergency loan is directly applied to your tuition account.
Living Expense Emergency Loans
Living expense emergency loans bear no interest and are available in varying amounts, based on the student's program and the amount of funds available.
Living expense emergency loan funds will be applied your personal bank account via direct deposit. For students who are not enrolled in direct deposit, a check will be mailed to your address on file. Funds should be available in approximately 3 business days, depending upon your bank.

General Emergency Loan Eligibility Criteria:
- May be enrolled less than 1/2 time for tuition payment emergency loans.
- Must be enrolled at least 1/2 time for living expense emergency loans.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident. International students should inquire at the International Office.
- If Due Date will be in graduating month, student must sign the "E-Loan Acknowledgement for Grad Students" form.
- GSBS Students must have approval from Bunny (Lourdes Perez)
- MD Anderson School of Health Professions students are not eligible for any type of emergency loans.
- Students must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program or in a certificate program in dental hygiene or postgraduate dentistry in order to be eligible for tuition or living expense emergency loans. All other certificate or non-degree programs are ineligible to apply.
- Students must be in good academic standing and have no institutional holds on their records.
- Students may not have any outstanding or past due emergency loans of the same type (i.e., two living expense loans or two tuition loans) or any outstanding delinquent university debts.
- Medical and Dental students may apply for living expense emergency loans online, in person at the Office of Student Financial Services or Student Affairs Office of their respective school.

- Upload the following completed documents to myUTH as Emergency Loan Application:
- Emergency Loan Application
- Master Promissory Note (MPN)
- Emergency Loan Acknowledgement Form for Graduating Students, if applicable
- Copy of your UTH Student ID or Driver’s License (front & back)
- The documents will be reviewed and processed by Student Financial Services. Proper documentation is necessary in order for loans to be approved and disbursed.

The emergency loan must be repaid to our service company, University Accounting Services (UAS). For more information regarding payment, contact UAS at https://www.uasconnect.com/ or click here. Failure to repay your emergency loan in a timely manner will result in adverse credit reporting.

Important Information regarding Emergency Loans
- Completed documents must be uploaded through your myUTH account.
- Funds awarded are determined by fund availability.
- Students who are enrolled in the installment plan will be removed from the installment plan by the Bursar’s Office after the emergency loan has disbursed.
- Students with outstanding tuition or living expense loans will not be awarded funds.
- Applications for emergency loans received after 2 p.m., will be processed the following business day, with one exception: Applications received after 12 noon three business days before the month ends will not be processed until the next month begins.
- Students have the right to access your records through your myUTH account.
- Financial aid funds will not be applied toward emergency loan balances. The emergency loan must be repaid to our service company, University Accounting Services (UAS). For more information regarding payment, contact UAS at https://www.uasconnect.com.
- A hold will be placed on the borrower’s academic record at the University for delinquent loans. This hold will prevent course registration and the issuance of transcripts and diplomas.
- Failure to repay your emergency loan in a timely manner will result in adverse credit reporting to a national credit bureau. If this occurs, the borrower will be responsible for all collection costs and legal fees incurred.

Additional Information
- You may only apply for an emergency tuition loan for one term at a time.
- Certain loans need TWO EMERGENCY LOAN APPLICATIONS and TWO MPNs with EXACT amounts
Example: MEDICAL requesting $3,000 will need one for $1,000 and another for $2,000
ACADEMICS requesting $500 will need one for $200 and another for $300
- Applications should be typed, not handwritten
- Signatures may be digital or handwritten, but not typed.
