Emergency Loan Details

Emergency loans (short-term, 90-day loans) are available for tuition payment and living expenses. Emergency loan funds will be applied to your personal bank account via direct deposit. For students who are not enrolled in direct deposit, a check will be mailed to your address on file.

For emergency loan application please complete the Emergency Loan Application and the Emergency Loan Promissory Note. The forms need to be completed, then printed and physically signed before uploading the document through the myUTH. You may utilize FA Misc. when uploading the document. The emergency loan must be repaid to our service company, University Accounting Services (UAS). For more information regarding payment, contact UAS at or click here. Failure to repay your emergency loan in a timely manner will result in adverse credit reporting.

General Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be enrolled at least 1/2 time for living expense emergency loans.
  • May be enrolled less than 1/2 time for tuition payment emergency loans.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident. International Students should inquire about emergency loans at the International Office.
  • Students must be in good academic standing and have no institutional holds on their records.
  • Students may apply for an emergency loan in the Office of Student Financial Services, 7000 Fannin, Suite 2220, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Medical and Dental students may apply for living expense emergency loans in the Office of Student Financial Services or Student Affairs Office of their respective school.
  • GSBS students may receive short-term (90 day) interest-free loans up to $1,000, due to impact of COVID-19, from the Jason Roy Beach, Jeannie B. Arnold, or Mary Beth Macek Funds. Call the Office of Academic Affairs (713-500-9871) for more information.

Tuition Emergency Loans

Tuition emergency loans are processed only for the amount of the tuition and bear interest at a 5% annual rate. This emergency loan is applied directly against the student's account.

Living Expense Emergency Loans

General Eligibility Criteria:

  • Living expense emergency loans bear no interest and are available in varying amounts, based on the student's school program and the amount of funds available. Refer to the chart below:
